Fund It Friday! January 13th

I am happy to have my first official Fund It Friday post of 2017 (for those that saw last week’s partial post-I apologize. It wasn’t supposed to launch!).  This week I have a small number of campaigns and games and they are all awesome in their own way. We hope you enjoy these campaigns this week! Now I just need to get over this flu and I can back to planning my 10×10 game list.

Crash Games needs our help to pay off some bills to get back on their feet and back to making games again. Through this campaign, any money raised will go towards paying designers, manufacturers and other game-making bills. Backers are welcome to back at different tiers and can receive copies of their latest games: Backyard Builders Treehouse and Fish Frenzy. Patrick of Crash Games has had a difficult year as he detailed in his “Where I’ve Been” video and we hope to see him and his wife back on Kickstarter in the future making more of the indie games we know and love.

Play as 1 of 6 archetypical faculty roles in this college for the magically gifted. Players will face the everyday challenges of those working in academia (like getting funding, following codes set forth by the Dean, etc) combined with all the oddities of magic that make those challenges all the more interesting and difficult (like the possibility of doppelgangers). Players have the freedom to make up their own departments, goals and further define the world of academia that they want to play in. Originally conceived for a fantasy RPG challenge, Pigsmoke was designed by Chris Longhurst (Gods and Monsters) and developed into a beautiful full-color book with the artistic stylings of Jacqui Davis (Belle of the Ball).

Thundergryph Games is on to their second game, after a shipping their first successful Kickstarter game Overseers (a competitive bidding game of virtues and vices which we can’t wait to play as backers!). Tao Long is a two player game where each player is a mythical dragons wielding different elemental energies and attacking their opponent until there is only one dragon left standing. Tao Long features an interesting combination of mechanics where players will use a rondel to determine movement of their dragon, which is represented on a second board. Players attack the other segments of their opponent’s dragon until they are the last one remaining.

The HEXPANSE is a futuristic game about taking over Mars before the other equally crafty and opportunistic warlords of our solar system do the same. I like the realistic sci-fi art to represent the diverse factions that unfortunately have some bland names: The Cyberion Collective, The Union of the Trade Worlds, Interstellar Nomads and The Terran Empire. Each unique faction collects resources from Mars, moves troops around the planet’s surface and aggressively stations soldiers in specific formations on Mars to gain a victory.

I hope you enjoyed this list of tabletop games and products that we are currently obsessing over on Kickstarter. If you have a Kickstarter you think we should cover, please let us know in the comments or contact us on Facebook and Twitter. Please consider supporting or sharing these campaigns with friends to help these games meet their goal. We’ll be back with another Fund It Friday article next week!
