Hasbro Files New Trademark: “HasbroCon”

It appears as if Hasbro may be in the process of starting up a convention solely for their own properties. Last week Hasbro filed paperwork for a new trademark called “HASBROCON” for the purposes of, “Organizing and conducting conventions, exhibitions, fan clubs and gatherings for entertainment purposes and in the fields of toys, animation, comic books, fantasy, gaming, popular culture, science fiction, television and film.” (via TatM) The domain name “www.hasbro-con.com” was also registered the same day.

A Hasbro convention could be a powerhouse of geeky properties. Among the properties that Hasbro owns are: G.I. Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony, as well as tabletop elephant-in-the-room Wizards of the Coast, who produce Magic: the Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. News of a HasbroCon isn’t shocking for those who have noticed WotC toning down their presence at cons they used to frequent- notably PAX and GenCon. Transformers fans have noticed similar patterns of interaction recently, and now we might attribute that to a larger plan for their own Hasbro convention.

There is no news yet as to where the con may be held, or when it will occur.
